| Proposal | The proposed works to the existing Town Hall seek to improve the appearance and use of the internal and external spaces of the building. The West Wing is proposed to function as a new customer service centre, requiring improved access and will be a main meeting point for visitors. The Town Hall and West Wing building will remain to serve the Council's operation, and there are no changes to the use of the building through this refurbishment work.
This application seeks Listed Building Certificate of Lawful Works consent for the following:
External Works
1. Main Entrance Refurbishment
To improve the appearance and access to the existing entrance of the building, the following work is proposed:
The removal of the existing ground floor entrance glazing, installation of new curtain wall entrance, soffit and associated works to the existing structure.
2. New signage above the main entrance
As part of the improvement works, new signage is proposed above the main entrance, with the potential to be illuminated via secondary light sources. The wording of the signage is yet to be confirmed.
3. New roof top plant and acoustic screening
As part of internal improvement works, a new VRF condenser is proposed. This is to be housed on the roof top, adjacent to the existing plant area.
4. New louvered ventilation panels to the façade: The existing louvered panels to the north facade of the west wing building are to be modified to provide new intake and extract grilles for the new ventilation system being installed.
5. New wayfinding totem to the external approach to the main entrance
To improve the wayfinding and access around the external area of the site, a new wayfinding totem is proposed. This is to be located adjacent to the main entrance to west wing within the existing paved area.
Internal Works:
1. Refurbishment of the existing West Wing Interior
Internal works to the West Wing include improving the existing amenity through refurbishing the existing WCs and office areas
2. Refurbishment of the Town Hall WCs
The existing WCs in the town hall are proposed to be refurbished as part of the amenity improvement works
3. Refurbishment of the Town Hall MASH area Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) area is proposed to be refurbished to provide collaboration and meeting spaces |
