ProposalThere are five trees in the rear garden of the property located approximately 20 metres from the back of the dwelling and 4 metres from the rear boundary of the property. The rear boundary of the property borders 11 Squirrels Heath Avenue. The trees are located in a horizontal line across the garden. Two trees at either end of the line are located one metre and 2.5 metres from the boundary with adjacent properties at 24 and 28 Crossways respectively. The spacing between each of the five trees ranges from 1 - 1.8 metres. None of the trees are subject to a Tree Preservation Order. The property is located within the Gidea Park conservation area. There are established hedges on the left and right boundaries of the garden. To the rear boundary there are established privet and bamboo sp immediately adjacent to the rear fence. The location of the trees is depicted in the attached sketch plan and photograph. Each tree is numbered 1-5. Details of each tree and proposed works are as follows: Tree 1: Species: Conifer (Leylandii sp), approximately 10 metres in height. Proposed works: Fell Rationale: very low amenity value, contributes to excessive shading and significant light diminution in garden and for surrounding properties and impacts on usable space within garden. Tree 2: Species: Horse Chestnut, approximately 10 metres in height. Proposed works: Fell Rationale: low amenity value, contributes to excessive shading and significant light diminution in garden and for surrounding properties and impacts on usable space within garden. Evidence of horse chestnut leaf-mining moth which is impacting health of the tree. Tree 3: Species: Conifer (Leylandii sp), approximately 10 metres in height. Proposed works: Fell Rationale: low amenity value, contributes to excessive shading and significant light diminution in garden and for surrounding properties and impacts on usable space within garden. Tree 4: Species: Common Ash, approximately 11 metres in height. Proposed works: Fell Rationale: low amenity value, contributes to excessive shading and significant light diminution in garden and for surrounding properties and impacts on usable space within garden. Tree 5: Species: Conifer (Leylandii sp), approximately 10 metres in height. Proposed works: Fell Rationale: low amenity value, contributes to excessive shading and significant light diminution in garden and for surrounding properties and impacts on usable space within garden. The felled trees will be replaced as part of a redesign and landscaping of the garden. To the rear boundary of the garden a row of established 'lighter' canopy trees with a small footprint, such as silver birch will be planted for screening to ensure privacy for neighbouring properties while also reducing shading in garden and surrounding properties. Specimen trees with ornamental value such as Amelanchier Lamarckii, Magnolia Stellata, Acer Griseum and Albizia Julibrissin will be planted in suitable locations in the garden.
